Head of Coaches / Coaches Mentor

Volunteer Position
Commitment: Two-year term

About the Role

Berwick Flames Basketball Club is looking for someone with a passion for coaching and helping others grow. Our Head of Coaches / Coaches Mentor will support both new and experienced coaches, share ideas and knowledge, and help create a fun, positive and consistent coaching environment across the club.

We're looking for someone with basketball coaching knowledge and experience who enjoys working with people, is happy to share their knowledge, and is committed to helping our coaches develop so that all our players have the best possible basketball experience.

What You'll Be Doing
- Support and mentor both new and experienced coaches throughout the season.
- Share new drills, skills, coaching ideas and resources with coaches.
- Attend Tuesday night training sessions where possible to observe, support and assist coaches.
- Where possible, step in to assist coaches or support teams when a coach is unavailable.
- Help build a consistent coaching approach across all Berwick Flames teams.
- Encourage a positive, inclusive and supportive environment for coaches and players.
- Keep in regular contact with the Executive Committee and provide a monthly update on how the coaching group is going, including any concerns, successes or support that coaches may need.
- Work with the Executive Committee to recruit, support and retain coaches.
- Review and update the Berwick Flames Coaches Handbook where required and distribute it to all coaches at the beginning of each season.
- Encourage coaches to continue learning and developing throughout the year.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:
- Has good basketball coaching knowledge and experience.
- Is passionate about developing coaches and helping them build confidence.
- Enjoys sharing ideas, knowledge and practical coaching skills.
- Is approachable, supportive and a good communicator.
- Can build positive relationships with coaches, players, parents and the Executive Committee.
- Is organised, reliable and committed to the club.
- Holds, or is willing to obtain, a current Working with Children Check.
- Formal coaching qualifications are not essential. However, the successful applicant should be interested in completing coaching courses or accreditation in the future to continue developing their own coaching knowledge. The Executive Committee will support the successful applicant in undertaking relevant coaching education and development opportunities where possible.

Commitment

This is a volunteer position with a two-year commitment. The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Attend Tuesday night training sessions as regularly as possible during the season.
- Keep in regular contact with coaches and provide ongoing support throughout the year.
- Meet with or provide an update to the Executive Committee each month regarding the coaching group, including any staffing changes, coach development, concerns or opportunities for improvement.
- Be a positive role model and help build a strong, supportive coaching culture across the club.

Why This Role Matters

Our coaches play a huge role in shaping the experience of every player at Berwick Flames. By mentoring and supporting our coaching group, you'll help create a positive environment where coaches feel confident, players continue to develop, and everyone enjoys being part of our club.

The Head of Coaches / Coaches Mentor is an important leadership role that will help strengthen our coaching program and contribute to the ongoing success of Berwick Flames Basketball Club.
